Heritage Hunter is a large-scale digital collage and website that brings together images and texts about Papatoetoe's past and present. Commissioned by Auckland Council and funded from the Otara-Papatoetoe Local Board, Heritage Hunter is one of three public artworks created on the occasion of Papatoetoe's 150th Anniversary celebrated in 2012. These artworks can be seen at various points on the Papatoetoe Heritage Trail.

Part 1 of Heritage Hunter was launched on 22 June 2013 along with the Papatoetoe Heritage Trail and Denis O'Connor's Toetoe Dreaming bluestone markers. Part 2 of Heritage Hunter expands the work to occupy a 50m stretch of wall on Great South Road at Hunters Corner was launched on 5 October 2013. Regan Gentry's Learning Your Stripes, a multi-part artwork encompassing the RSA memorial and Burnside Park, was launched on 8 December 2012.

The trail acknowledges aspects of Māori and colonial histories in the area. It identifies a range of foundation buildings and areas including the Tāmaki River, the Great South Road, Hunters Corner and old Papatoetoe to the Kohuora wetlands.
