The Great South Road crosses the foreground diagonally. The Papatoetoe Hotel, opened in 1960, is the prominent building in Hoteo Avenue in the middle left. Now known as the Hunters Inn, this was Papatoetoe's first-ever licensed hotel, and the first licensed hotel built on the Great South Road between Otahuhu and Manurewa since the Raglan Hotel at Woodside (Wiri) burnt down in 1876. This block of land opposite Kolmar Road, was originally part of Chapman's farm, later Hrstich's vineyard.

Behind the Hunters Inn stands a clock tower of which all 4 clocks have been stopped - at different times - for as long as many Papatoetoe residents can remember.
