This store on the southern corner of Kolmar Rd and Great South Rd was built by the Harrisons in 1908. Mrs Harrison was the sister of Elizabeth Hunter, well-known for establishing with her husband James, Hunters plumbing and drapery business in 1912 and later opening tearooms at 129 Great South Road.

McCauley's General Store, run by the McCauley family, operated between 1920 and 1957 and is well remembered by many older Papatoetoe residents. This store sold just about everything – including kitchen sinks.

Ian and Glenis McGechie operated a stationery store on the same site from 1982 to 2006. Mr McGechie's great-grandfather, John McGechie, arrived in Wellington on the Bengal Merchant in October 1839 and settled in East Tamaki in the 1850s. He, like Ian, became involved in local body politics.
